Jon Else will join AMCS faculty and students to discuss his recent book, True South: Henry Hampton and ‘Eyes on the Prize,’ the Landmark Televisions Series That Reframed the Civil Rights Movement. Vernon Mitchell (Curator of Popular American Arts, WU Special Collections) and Jasmine Mahmoud (AMCS Postdoctoral Fellow in Inequality and Identity) will moderate the discussion. Else was a producer and cinematographer for Eyes on the Prize. His new book delves into the making of the series and the force behind it, filmmaker Henry Hampton. Else has won many awards for his work as a producer and director, including an Academy Award and several Emmys. He will be in St. Louis this Spring as the featured guest for the Henry Hampton Film Series, co-sponsored by WU Libraries’ Film and Media Archive and the Missouri History Museum.
