Americanist Dinner Forum: Moonscape of the Mind
This Americanist Dinner Forum celebrates the “Moonscape of the Mind” project, a multifaceted research initiative that explores the legacies of the Japanese Incarceration of WWII by closely considering a specific work by a Japanese American designer, architect, or artist. It begins with Beauty In Enormous Bleakness, a multi-layered investigation into the lives of Japanese American architects who survived the Japanese Incarceration of WWII, exploring American architecture's relationship to issues of immigration, exclusion, and cultural identity in the 20th-century.

The Dinner Forum features “Moonscape of the Mind” contributors Heidi Kolk, Kelley Murphy, and AMCS graduate Gabi Senno in conversation with WashU Japanese / East Asian Studies Librarian Mitsu Nakamura about the BIEB exhibition, its methodologies, design, and execution, as well as how alternative modes of storytelling have allowed them to build a new kind of narrative about design history, the cultural landscape, and seeing St. Louis in a new way.
