Participatory-Action Workshop to Community Engagement with Dr. Kong Pha

Academics have long experimented with a variety of approaches to community-engaged research, advocacy, and artistic work. However, such work remains challenging.

In this participatory action workshop, Dr. Kong Pheng Pha will share his experiences of working with communities to foster empowerment and justice.

Dr. Kong Pha

This workshop highlights Dr. Pha’s frameworks for conducting community-engaged research and designing creative projects, with special attention on his community-based exhibit Los Tsev: Cia Siab (Hope) in Wisconsin that celebrated and counter-commemorated the 50th anniversary of Hmong and Southeast Asian refugee resettlement in the United States in 2025. The exhibit, curated with a team of community curators across the state of Wisconsin, was an eight-year public history and storytelling project that was exhibited at six different cities and displayed at a variety of venues across Wisconsin. Participants will be asked to share their experiences and (inter)disciplinary approaches to community-engaged work to collectively reimagine frameworks of social engagement in applied research, artistic projects, public history, and the public humanities.

Lunch will be provided, please use the RSVP link below.
