This class is an advanced course on modern methods of collecting, organizing, exploring, visualizing, and analyzing social science data with a specific focus on data arising from political sources. It will also provide an introduction to intermediate programming concepts in the R language. The goal is to give students a toolbox of skills they can use in their own research and in applied setting. While students will learn how to use machine learning and statistical methods, the emphasis will be on applying these approaches correctly rather than the underlying mathematics. The course will be highly project based and will require extensive work in collaborative teams to build and analyze unique datasets.
